“However bad life is, what’s important is to make something interesting out of it. And that has a lot to do with the physical world, with looking at stuff, snow and light and the smell of your screen door and whatever constitutes your phenomenal existence from moment to moment. How consoling—that this stuff goes on and that you can keep thinking about it and making that into something on the page.”

— Anne Carson explains an idea that she and Alice Munro have in common (attachment to the physical world and the details in life), from The Art of Poetry No. 88, Paris Review  (via podencos)

dont get me wrong sometimes this site is right in self care being ‘uwu curling up in bed and being kind to urself!!!!’ but also sometimes……hot take…..self care is rough. recovery is hard. sometimes self care is facing shit about yourself you dont want to face and addressing those problems head on and doing something about it. sometimes self care is discipline and changing your habits and lifestyle. self care can be indulgent and kind, but self care can also be a driving force towards who you want to be, and self care does not always feel good.

Save a life

Totes good data.

The part of this I don’t like is “they will most likely move on to an easier target.” Like I’m supposed to feel fine about someone else with a less sturdy door getting ripped off?

Change your neighbor’s screws too

Channel your inner dad

Chage everyone’s screws

Mythbusters did this but not exactly on purpose, they put together a door to test how to kick it down and didn’t have the right sized screws so they used the longer ones and even Jamie running at speed had trouble breaking the door with the longer screws

Not only will longer screws keep you safer, they also prevent your door from sagging over time, which leads to scraping or your door not closing properly.

Living as long as I have with mental illness and disability, I’ve learned a lot about what it means to have willpower

Willpower does not mean “work past your limit until you crumble”

It’s “damn it, this shit didn’t beat me then and it ain’t gonna beat me now. There is nothing to suggest that I can’t do this. And if it can’t happen, I will MAKE it happen”

One thing about recovery: sometimes you don’t need a reason to live. You just get up and do it anyway—not for yourself or your family or love or freedom or even your dog, but because you have to and there ain’t no other way

you’ve gotta stat romanticizing your life. you gotta start believing that your morning commute is cute and fun, that every cup of coffee is the best you’ve ever had, that even the smallest and most mundane things are exciting and new. you have to, because that’s when you start truly living. that’s when you look forward to every day.
