I am the only grad student in a class of undergraduates, a contemporary art class.
I made reference to an artwork – âoh, itâs like that piece thats three feet of air above a pedastal that contains a curse or a blessing from a witch.â
I sure baffled a bunch of students, right then.
Tom Friedman, âUntitled (A Curse),â 1992
They are required to pack it for shipping with room for the curse.
NYC-based artist Sarah Meyohas creates infinite tunnels that are created with facing mirrors set against pastel backdrops. Smoke, flowers, and finger tips border the reflective surfaces, creating dream-like environments that pull the viewer deep into the imageâs frame.Â
everyone is deleting the caption to this but this work is called âperfect loversâ by the gay artist felix gonzalez-torres. the piece is about the illness and death of his HIV-positive partner ross laycock:
For Untitled (Perfect Lovers) (1991), he synchronized two industrial clocks placed side by side. Inevitably, because batteries fail and things tend toward entropy, the clocks would slowly begin to advance at differing rates, out of sync, having moved, however briefly, perfectly together. (x)
